Poco X8 Pro Max Review: 9000mAh Beast, Flagship Power, Worth the Price?

Poco X8 Pro Max

Okay, see I'm not holding any secrets. Maybe a little bit about an event, but this right here, this is the Poco X8 Pro Max. You get India's first Dimensity 9500S processor, UFS 4.1 storage, and a 9,000 mAh battery, which is almost 20% larger than last year. But come on, we have heard all of this before. This will not get us excited.

Well, this is the Poco X8 Pro Iron Man Edition. Hold it right there, Poco X8 Pro Max. I have heard that name before. So the question almost everyone has on their mind is: could these be the best phones of 2026? If it is, then what could be the price of these devices in India, and are these phones even worth it? Well, Jarvis, get us some LPGs because this article is going to be lit.

The Design and looks: Poco X8 Pro Max

Let’s start with the box now, as we can see over the internet and the review videos it comes in like a suitcase. It reminds me something about the Iron Man 2 movie Monaco race scene. Do you remember the way the suit comes out of the suitcase? It was just amazing. It is the reason to call it a suitcase. Let's open it up. Look at the details. First, we have the small box, and inside you get this case. Like, it looks straight up inspired by the suit of Iron Man.

And look at this, I mean this is the coolest SIM ejector tool I have seen. Now let's remove this card. Woah! It looks so epic. Even the charging cable is very different. Now coming to the device, the back has these really cool patterns. It's like the arc reactor on the back but with the Iron Man head at the center. And Iron Man is also printed on the back. It's kind of like a 3D texture on the back. Now let's put the case on. By the way, if we look inside: we could see a soft finish with the iconic Iron Man logo. This could be easily one of the top five super-looking phones of 2026. I mean, love it. 30,000.

Similarity with Poco X Series:

Now the Poco X Pro Max box—like the packaging -- is more or less similar to last year's Poco X series. Now there are very slight differences between the PO X8 Pro and PO X8 Pro Max. So we'll mostly be talking about the Poco X8 Pro Max. But wherever there are differences, we'll mention them separately. Now before we get to the performance, there are four interesting things in the Poco X8 Pro Max. Now the first interesting thing is the built-in design.

Poco X8 Pro Max

Like if you look at the PCO X8 Pro Max, the design here is very simple and minimal. With its jet-black hue, the mobile looks both clandestine and traditional in appearance. However, if for any reason the look of this phone isn't your favourite, you have three other colour variations to choose from too! This phone has a matte fibreglass finish on its back which helps reduce fingerprints.

If you look closely at the area next to the two cameras on the back of the phone, you might think there are actually two separate flash units for each cam, however there is indeed only one flash; both cameras will use the same unit equally. Moving on to the power switch; the rim around the power switch is coloured red which adds some character to the phone. In addition, the side notes of the phone are metallic. As a result, when holding this mobile in your hands, it will feel nice and smooth due to the use of metals in its construction materials, which also help keep this mobile weight (approximately 220 grams) down while providing enough strength to withstand being dropped from a height of 5 feet.

The weight is particularly impressive considering the amount of battery capacity this phone has (9,000 mAh). Not just that, even the phone is not that thick here. Now in terms of protection, it comes with IP69K water and dust resistance. So from water splashes to heavy super jets, it can handle all of this. Also, another interesting thing, there's an IR blaster here. So you can control devices like your TV, AC, etc.

Display:

Now the second interesting thing here is the display. It has a 6.83 in AMOLED display with Corning Glass 7i protection. Now in my usage, while booking a cab outdoors using maps and directions in bright sunlight, the display was pretty bright, and not just outdoors, even indoors. If you see, the movie-watching experience is pretty good. The colors look punchy.

Less commonly, there is at least one other android phone in North America that will support Dolby Vision for Netflix (Xiaomi devices) but HDR and Dolby Vision are not widely supported amongst android phones and even fewer have this feature on Netflix. Another surprising feature of the X8 pro max is its ultrasonic fingerprint reader. This technology enables rapid access post/proximity to the light/illuminated display screen with a single touch.

Battery of the Poco X8 Pro Max:

Additionally, this device has a humongous 9,000mAh silicon and carbon battery, which is almost the same size as a power bank. The only other phone I can recall with this battery size was a Poco-made phone that was sold with a 6000mAh battery. At that time, Poco publicly stated that no other phone would ever be produced with such a large capacity battery as that of theirs again.

After producing this statement, they later produced a phone that had a battery capacity of 6550mAh. Then in 2026, whereby battery capacity levels for smartphones have risen to 7000mAh routinely, they have once again produced another phone; this phone will feature a battery with a capacity of 9000mAh. 2026 battery life should not be a problem for anyone concerned with mobile phone battery life or longevity.

During my experience using phones only to view content (e-g Watching movies) & take photos, I was able to use my 9000mAh battery-equipped phone for two days straight without needing another charge. In addition, this phone supports 100W fast-charging technology meaning you will charge this device completely (100%) in approximately 1 hour. Now just a quick tip here: whenever you are in a hurry, you just tap and enable this top speed option to get full charging speeds. The X8 Pro Max also has a feature called smart charging option.

Imagine you're mid-tournament in VGM and the battery hits 10%. So in normal scenarios, the maximum power of the phone goes to the battery, which heats the phone. But the smart charging mode in X8 Pro Max divides the power equally amongst all components in the phone. So the phone stays cooler, the battery gets charged, and you even get good performance. Now along with this, the X8 Pro Max also supports 27-watt reverse wired charging. So this can literally charge a MacBook Neo. Now it has become a power bank too. Well, it is still a smartphone with a powerbank feature.

Camera features:

Now the third interesting thing here is the cameras. It comes with a dual camera setup, and it's really good to see that there is no gimmicky 2-megapixel macro or depth camera like that. Now we clicked some photos with it, and the photos in daylight, the camera performs really well. The colors look good. The colours are nice and neither too bright nor too bland; therefore, the pictures taken with this device look decent even when zoomed in, with no loss of detail-a sign that both the exposure and HDR are optimal.

In portrait modes, photographs are also looking very good, particularly the edge detection when slightly zoomed in. The results of taking pictures through windows show very similar results to those taken in daylight conditions. The second camera on this device is the 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and so it takes pictures like every other 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera-no surprise. The photographs taken in low light or indoors with this camera are acceptable but do appear to lack some sharpness.

On the other hand, for selfies you have a front-facing 20-megapixel camera too. The selfies come out sharp, and it also gets pretty wide as well. Now coming to video recording, the phone can record up to 4K 60 fps.

Software, Processor & Performance:

Now coming to the software, the X8 Pro series comes with Hyper OS3 based on the latest Android 16. Now the first thing that caught my attention here is the animations. If I open and close an app, they are pretty smooth. And it's not just the animations. Even these small details, like when I scroll down to open the notification menu, the side clock gets bigger; when I close it, the clock goes smoothly back to its original position.

Also, Hyper OS has some of the best lock screen customizations out of all the UIs. Like you get multiple clock styles and fonts to choose from. You can apply the depth effect, and you can also create presets. Not just that, amongst other features, I found this one very helpful. Like whenever I put my phone on silent mode, I get this slider where I can choose how long I want it to stay on silent and then come back again to general mode.

Poco X8 Pro Max

Now this is very helpful for people like me who put their phone on silent in the office but then forget to put it on in general when I go back home. Also, this is the most eye-catching feature: you get RGB light effects around both camera rings. And these lights do look cool, but there's also a use case for it. Like if you put your phone face down, the lights can glow in different colors for calls and app notifications. So you can know what's happening without even seeing the display. And of course, it's RGB, so it can also sync with music. And they're also useful when you're taking photos with a timer. The lights actually count down and then flash when the photo is taken, which is perfect for hands-free shots.

Poco X8 Pro Max

You also get some useful AI features in Hyper OS3. Like if you have an old blurred photo, you can enhance it. You can expand images, and you can also remove unwanted objects from photos, etc. But here I found something even more interesting. If I open global search, there's an AI option, so you can do AI-based enhanced deep search. Now there are also some pre-installed third-party apps that you can easily uninstall. In terms of software updates, the X8 Pro Max will get 4 years of OS updates and 6 years of security updates.
