Big Telecom Changes in India: No Data Limits, BSNL-VI Merger & End of DTH Boxes?

Big Telecom Changes in India

From all plans of Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, either the daily data limit will be removed, or data rollover will be turned on in all plans. Everything is going to be shared in the BSNL and Vodafone Idea merger. Both Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio have launched new plans. Get ready to throw away your DTH set-top box because no more set-top boxes will be required in India.

Everything is shaking because Raghav Chadha Ji has dropped a bomb again. This time, the demands he has made are absolutely genuine demands, and until today, no one has discussed or thought about this. He says most plans that come have a daily data limit. For the network plan reference, we get the daily data limit of almost 1.5GB, 2GB, or 3GB, and we pay according to the plan to get the exact data limit we want. So if it doesn't end by the end of the day, why does it expire? Why don’t we receive any unused data if we had some? As if I used 1GB of data in 1.5GB, then at the end of the day, why can’t we receive the remaining 500MB of our purchased data with the next-day data limit?

About the data limits:

To give an example, he said, Our car has 30 litres of petrol, we refill it from the petrol pump at the start of the month. For one month, and if 5 litres of petrol remain at the end of the month, do the petrol pump people come and take those 5 litres back? No, right? Because you have paid for it. Similarly, if you are paying for daily data, then if it doesn't end, why should it expire? In this way, he has made three demands which are very justified, and in today’s date, data is not just for entertainment; it is digital oxygen.

Regarding his previous demand for 30-day plans, TRAI has already given orders to telecom operators. His first demand is that either the daily data limit should be removed or the remaining data at the end of the day should be rolled over so users can use it later. The second demand is very unique and genuine. He says that by rolling over data, the unused data at the end of the month should give you a discount on your next recharge based on the market rate.

UPI transfers:

The third demand is even more interesting: the remaining data should be treated as a digital asset, and if you want, you can transfer that data just like UPI transfers money. You can send it to your family members. I really liked these three demands. Within a few days, telecom plan prices are going to increase, so if companies like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea bring such features, users will become more loyal.

If you want to earn rewards by playing games and completing daily tasks, then you can use the Chillar app. I have shown examples where users are earning thousands of rupees and transferring them to UPI. The link is in the description; you can try it once, as it might become an alternate source of income.

Update related WhatsApp:

The latest news to arise has come from the team at WhatsApp, with new features that are of great use to the end user: transferring your WhatsApp data, including your chats, images and videos, between Android and iOS; checking for large files in WhatsApp, and deleting those large files that you no longer want or need; and the ability to delete media from your chat while retaining the conversation.

So no longer will you have to worry about running out of space when you receive large files or need to keep track of what's being stored in your device when communicating to others.

Vodafone Idea & BSNL news:

This week's press announcement details challenges faced by Vodafone Idea & BSNL as they explore potential merger options. If these two were to successfully combine, it would give them a stronger position against Airtel/Jio. Recently, Vodafone Idea introduced 5G in numerous cities, while BSNL's future activities will include constructing 60K 4G infrastructure locations.

If the two corporations were to combine efforts through a merger, each would benefit by collaborating on its networks (towers, fibre optic cable and spectrum), resulting in improved connections and faster data transfers for both groups of their customers.

New plan announcement:

Currently, there has been no official announcement for a merger between these two providers; as soon as it becomes official, we'll want to see how it will influence the mobile wireless sector as a whole. Vodafone Idea has announced a new promotion which gives each customer 300 GB of data for ₹398 (INR). The ₹670 plan gives 56 days of validity, while another plan gives 84 days of validity with unlimited calls and SMS benefits.

Reliance Jio has also introduced a new ₹365 plan with 30-day validity, 25GB data, unlimited calls, and 100 daily SMS. It also includes Jio Cloud storage, Jio TV subscription, and additional services. The next major update is about DTH services. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that Smart TVs to be introduced in India will come equipped with the capacity for an integrated set-top box.

About the DTH Boxes:

Thus, there will not be a requirement for end users to purchase/rent separate set-top boxes to connect to a cable television service provider. If this is supported by DTH service providers, then there may be no need for traditional set-top boxes beginning at that time. This could mark a major shift in the way that we currently access and view television programming in the future. By the way, what DTH provider do you use?

Final conclusion:

And one more thing before I end this article, just think about it for a second. The way things are changing right now, telecom is no longer just about calling and data; it’s becoming a complete digital ecosystem. Earlier, we used to recharge just to talk or maybe watch some YouTube videos, but now everything from banking, studying, working, and even entertainment is dependent on data. So if these changes actually come into reality, especially data rollover or data transfer, it will genuinely help a lot of people, especially students and people living in smaller towns where every rupee matters.

Also, regarding this whole DTH situation, I feel this is going to take some time to fully replace set-top boxes. Because you know how things work in India, even if the technology is ready, the implementation takes time. But still, this is a very big step. Imagine not having that extra box, extra remote, extra wires; it just makes life simpler. And honestly, that’s where tech should go, making things simple, not complicated.

And about the merger news, if BSNL and Vodafone Idea actually pull this off properly, then trust me, competition is going to increase a lot. And whenever there is competition, we as users benefit the most. Prices get better, services improve, and companies actually start listening to customers. So overall, the coming months are going to be very interesting in the telecom space.

Let’s see what actually happens. For now, just stay updated and don’t blindly recharge expensive plans without checking what you’re really getting.
