Have you ever felt that your mobile phone could be stolen at any time? Have you ever noticed that someone is looking at your phone from a distance, and you unconsciously lock your phone and take it into your pocket or bag to a safe place? Have you ever seen someone’s phone get stolen in a crowded area or any other place? You may have thought this while using your phone with only one hand in a little crowded place, that someone may just grab your phone, snatch it, and run so fast that you cannot get your phone back. Have you ever thought that, if you lost your phone, what would happen to all the important information you have on your phone? Like, you may have logged in to all the accounts on your phone. You have a UPI app from which you made transactions. You may also have UPI Lite activated, too. Your videos, chats, photos, all the media files, as well as all the documents, will be in the hands of someone else. If you ever feel like this, you are in the right place. I will share some important information about how it is possible to always be ready for any situation that could happen anytime.
I will be sharing some important points. Let’s start with the protection thing. At first, all the important applications should be protected on your device. Let me share some examples with you. Like, we all use WhatsApp and other conversation platforms. We first have to make it a secure place to chat. It is not always needed that the chats be sensitive to protect in from others. But chats and conversions are personal, that’s why most of the apps are encrypted. When we are talking with someone, it is a personal space which created only for both people. First, there is an app locker available on almost all phones; we have to turn that on for WhatsApp and messaging apps. If the phone gets stolen or you lose your device, at least there will be a protection to hide it, and you will get some time to safely log out of that phone. Many important media could be there in conversation apps that will be safe with this work. All the other applications, which are important, like Gallery, banking apps, need to have an app lock protection on them before opening the application.
Next is using the private folders. There are options now on phones to hide photos and videos from your phone, and only we can access them with some specific passwords. As an example, if you have an important video that you don’t want to share and don’t always want to access. Then you can simply hide it with the MX Player private folder. It gives you the option to choose to protect your data with a specific lock pin or pattern. I am not advertising the app. Right now, I am just sharing that this app can do the thing. There are many applications available now that have the functions to store files and hide them. We can use this function to hide it from others. The hidden files will not be visible from the file manager, like the app, either. Also, we can easily access it anytime from those specific applications with the password. Sometimes there is a possibility that our phone could be accessed by someone we can’t resist, like brothers and sisters. At this time, if our media files are hidden, no one could be able to see them from anywhere on your phone without you. Also, the hidden folder and private folder options are hidden too. It hides within menus that someone will not be able to notice easily.
Another thing is to use the applications that have the features to log out from previous devices or all the devices previously logged in. Let me give you some examples of that. Gmail is a good example of that. We can always log in to Google from a device and open our account to access other connected devices. We can track the connected devices too as well and we can log out from any devices anytime. Another one of the best examples is WhatsApp. If we log in to that app on another device, the previously logged-in device will be automatically logged out. Also, if we want to use WhatsApp on both devices with the same number for any reason, we can always use the companion mode or link the devices. But that is a different case. If we want to log in to WhatsApp with our number on another phone, the previous phone will automatically log out. The same feature we have for the banking applications and GPay apps. Things are safer there. If we don’t have any active SIMs on our phone, the banking app and the GPay-like applications will not run. These applications will run on the phone where we have the SIM card, on which number we have the bank accounts. So, if at any time the phone is missing and we are confirm about it that we will not get that again, then we must first need to contact the Customer care number for that specific telecom operator and request them to block the number and register a new SIM card with that number. Without your active SIM card and your PINs. OTP for the bank accounts will not be accessible.
The last and final thing is, if we have a phone, which is important for us. Some important data is there that we don’t want to lose. We may have a good memory with that phone, as well as the phone price is also a factor. Then, it is suggested that we might get another second-hand phone outside our home. We will only use our loved phone at home, and outside we can use the second-hand phone. WhatsApp companion version and GPay could be installed on that. If somehow we lost our second-hand phone outside, we can deactivate and register a new SIM within 1-2 days and log back in on the old phone. It is suggested that if we mostly travel or visit through crowded areas, we use a low-priced smartphone that can do all our work outside, like UPI payments, WhatsApp, Gmail, calling, and chatting. In my case, I always take the Redmi 6A with me for all my outside work. It is also small and fits in my pocket. My old phone has some important files, as well as it is carrying a lot of memory, and the phone is valuable to me too.
Here are some ways to protect your phone. I have described each of them with proper examples. Go through all the points and always be safe. Our phone is less important than our lives. All the important files could be recovered, but our lives couldn’t. So if you ever lose your main phone, just do not panic. First, register a dairy at the nearest police station with the IMEI number, and then you can block your number and issue a new SIM. Also, try to save all the important files on Drive or any other cloud storage place you want.
